The College of New Jersey provides unique and robust opportunities for students with an interest in keyboard and piano studies. From a sequence of Keyboard Skills courses designed for music majors and music minors to beginning piano classes and private lessons, TCNJ has class curricular opportunities for students with a range of abilities and interests. Prospective music majors are encouraged to experience all that our program has to offer through events such as our annual Music Major For A Day @ TCNJ, program.
All-Steinway School
TCNJ is proudly an All-Steinway School, one of fewer than 150 colleges, universities, and conservatories worldwide that provide students the advantage of exceptional Steinway piano craftsmanship.
Piano Study
Advanced piano study is open to all music majors in the Bachelor of Arts in music, Bachelor of Music in music education, and Bachelor of Music in performance degree programs. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced study options are available for students majoring in fields other than music.
Keyboard Study
All music majors (except students whose primary instrument is piano) are required to complete several levels of keyboard study, depending on one’s track, as well as the Keyboard Proficiency Exam.
