The College of New Jersey provides unique and robust opportunities for string and piano students. Whether a music major or non-music major, violin, viola, cello, double bass, piano, harp, and guitar students have the opportunity to work with our world-class Artist-Teacher faculty and perform in large ensembles and a variety of chamber ensembles.
Given that TCNJ Department of Music is an undergraduate-focused program, string and piano students have increased opportunities to perform in many different ensembles, play leadership roles and perform prominent solo parts in each ensemble, and take advantage of unique opportunities like TCNJ Concerto Competition and Student Showcase Recitals. Prospective students are encouraged to experience all that our program has to offer for string and piano students through events such as our annual Music Major For A Day @ TCNJ, program.
String and piano students have the opportunity to perform in a range of large and chamber ensembles. TCNJ College Orchestra is the primary ensemble for string students. Double Bass and piano students also have the opportunity to perform with TCNJ Wind Ensemble, Wind Orchestra, and Jazz Ensemble. Chamber ensembles include guitar ensemble, harp ensemble, and a number of mixed-instrumentation string and piano ensembles. A highlight of the area is TCNJ Strings Recital, which occurs each semester.
