Minors and Non-Music Majors

The Department of Music at The College of New Jersey welcomes students from all majors who wish to participate in our various programs, ensembles, and courses.

Students are encouraged to start the music minor in the second semester of their freshman year or no later than the first semester of their second year. Each semester students must consult a Department of Music advisor in the selection of the courses, leading to an individualized minor in music.

Private Studio Lessons

An audition is required for applied lessons, beginning at the intermediate level. Generally, lessons for beginners are not offered.

Students should first contact the studio teacher of their primary instrument.  Private studio lessons for non-majors carry a fee of $500 per semester at the 200-level and $1,000 per semester at the 300-level. Scholarships for non-major private studio lessons might be considered, depending on departmental need.
