Bassoon

Audition Information

The goal of the audition is to enable you to best demonstrate your musical achievement. Select pieces from the repertoire below that you feel confident with and that display your strengths and interests.  We encourage you to consult with your music teacher or private lesson teacher when choosing and preparing your repertoire. We also invite you to contact Mr. Dennis MacMullin macmulli@tcnj.edu, Artist-Teacher of Bassoon, for guidance in selecting repertoire and to inquire about scheduling a free sample lesson prior to your audition.

Scales

Perform 4, three-octave scales in the following keys, played with a steady tempo and consistent rhythm.

E Major
A-flat Major
B-flat Major
B-flat (or full-range) Chromatic, slurred in duple meter

Solo*

Select one piece listed below.  If possible, please offer contrasting sections.

Bourdeau: Premier Solo (entire solo)
Mozart: Concerto in B-flat Major 1st and 2nd movements
Telemann: Sonata in F Minor (All four movements) – 2021/2022 All state audition piece
Pierne: Concert Piece-Entire Solo

Studies

Prepare an etude of your choosing that best demonstrates your ability. Representative etudes from:

L. Milde, 50 Concert Studies Volume I
