The interview will focus on the applicant’s prior musical experience and ability to present their career objectives in a thoughtful, articulate, and professional manner.
Another important part of the interview is an Aural Skills and Music Theory Placement test. This is a one-on-one test of basic musicianship skills including:
- Reading treble and bass clef, time and key signatures
- Singing a simple song, unaccompanied (e.g., My Country ‘Tis of Thee)
- Melodic and rhythmic memory
Students with advanced music theory knowledge will be given opportunities for advanced placement at a later point in the matriculation process.
After the college has received your completed application, the Department of Music will send you an email from email@example.com, with the subject line: TCNJ Audition. This email will have scheduling and other important information for your recorded audition. Please respond promptly to complete the scheduling process.
Be sure to set your spam filter to allow mail from the domain “tcnj.edu”
Coordinating your interview with your audition recordings
In order to promote a meaningful discussion at your interview, we must receive your audition recordings at least one week ahead of your interview. So, be sure to time the submission of your audition recordings with your interview.
For any questions, contact the Audition Coordinator, Prof. William Trigg firstname.lastname@example.org
