Application Process
- Students intending to major in music at The College of New Jersey must complete an Admissions Application.
- You will be prompted to schedule an audition once your application is received and processed by TCNJ’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Your audition is not scheduled until you receive a confirmation.
- Following your audition, the Department of Music will forward its evaluations and recommendations to TCNJ’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and you will be notified regarding your overall application result.
- TCNJ offers financial aid and academic scholarships. A limited number of music talent scholarships are awarded to students in each incoming class.

Audition Information
Overview
On the day of your audition, you will meet with different groups of faculty. We are interested in learning about your prior musical experiences as well as your academic and professional ambitions. Your in-person audition will consist of 2 components: a performance on your primary instrument and a program interview. You should expect to spend 2-3 hours at your audition. Please review the requirements to help you prepare for your in-person audition. Note: A basic music theory assessment will be scheduled later. Students with advanced music theory knowledge will also be given opportunities for advanced placement at a later point in the matriculation process.

- Wednesday, November 6, 2024: Early Decision, Spring Transfer: All Instruments
- Wednesday, February 5, 2025: All Instruments (except sax and string bass)
- Saturday, February 22, 2025: All Instruments (except guitar)
- Saturday, March 1, 2025: Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion
- Wednesday, March 12, 2025: Voice, Piano and Strings

- Registration: 11:30 a.m.
- Information session: noon.
- Auditions: 12:30 p.m.

Saturday’s in-person audition schedule
- Registration: 9:30 a.m.
- Information session: 10 a.m.
- Auditions: 10:30 a.m.
