Audition Information
The goal of the music audition is to enable you to highlight your musical achievement and potential. You should select pieces from the repertoire list below that best demonstrate your current level of musicianship. We encourage you to consult with your music teacher and/or private lesson teacher when selecting and preparing your repertoire. Each audition will include scales, studies, solo repertoire, and sight-reading.
Scales
Prepare the scales listed below. All scales are to be played with a steady tempo, consistent rhythm, and in the required octaves (or full-range extension above/below the given tonic). Requests for slurred/articulated are to be prepared.
- Chromatic scale (full range)
- Two major scales in the keys of your choice
Studies
Perform 3 minutes of an etude from one of the methods below:
- A.M.R. Barret, Complete Method for Oboe
- F. Ferling, 48 Exercises for Oboe
Solo Repertoire*
Perform a ca. 5-minute selection from a standard sonata or concerto from one of the following composers of your choice. Please be certain to prepare contrasting sections (slow/lyrical and fast/technical)
- George Friedrich Handel – Concerto in B-flat Major / Concerto in G Minor / Sonata in C Minor / Sonata in G Minor / Sonata in F Major
- Joseph Haydn – Concerto in C Major (attributed to Haydn)
- Alessandro Marcello – Concerto in C Minor / Concerto in D Minor
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Concerto in C Major
- George Philip Telemann – Sonata in G Minor / Sonata in E-flat Major / Concerto in F Minor
