Audition Information
The goal of the music audition is to enable you to highlight your musical achievement and potential. You should select pieces from the repertoire list below that best demonstrate your current level of musicianship. We encourage you to consult with your music teacher and/or private lesson teacher when selecting and preparing your repertoire. Each audition will include scales, studies, solo repertoire, and sight-reading
Scales
Prepare the scales listed below. All scales are to be played with a steady tempo, consistent rhythm, and in the required octaves (or full-range extension above/below the given tonic). Requests for slurred/articulated are to be prepared.
- All major scales, one octave.
- The following scales to be played two octaves:
- F Major
- G Major
- A-Flat Major
- B-Flat Major
- B-flat and F Chromatic scales, two octaves, slurred
Studies*
Prepare two contrasting etudes of your choosing that best demonstrates your ability. Representative etudes from:
- Blazhevich: 70 Studies for Bb Tuba
- Bordogni: Complete Vocalizes for tuba, Edited by Wesley Jacobs.
- Grigoriev: 78 Studies for Tuba
- Kopprasch: 60 Selected Studies
- Tyrell: Advance Studies for Bb Tuba
Solo Repertoire*
