Audition Information

The goal of the audition is to enable you to best demonstrate your musical achievement. Select pieces from the repertoire below that you feel confident with and that display your strengths and interests.  We encourage you to consult with your music teacher or private lesson teacher when choosing and preparing your repertoire. We also invite you to contact Noelle Grand, Artist-Teacher of Cello <grandn@tcnj.edu>, for guidance in selecting repertoire and to inquire about scheduling a free sample lesson prior to your audition.

Scales

Scales and arpeggios in G, D, F Major; a, e, d minor (at least one in 3 octaves), played with a steady tempo and consistent rhythm.

Studies*

An etude from the following books, or comparable:

F. Dotzauer, 113 Etudes

J.L. Duport, 21 Etudes

A. Franchomme, 12 Etudes

A. Piatti, 12 Caprices

D. Popper, 40 Etudes

A. Servais, 6 Caprices

Solo

A movement from any sonata by A. Corelli, B. Marcello, G. Sammartini, A. Vivaldi or comparable;

OR a movement from any concerto by A. Vivaldi, J.C. Bach, L. Boccherini, J. Haydn, E. Lalo, C. Saint-Saens or comparable;

OR the Arioso by J.S. Bach or comparable.

Sight Reading

The candidate will be asked to play a short piece at sight.
