Oboe

Audition Information

The goal of the audition is to enable you to best demonstrate your musical achievement. Select pieces from the repertoire below that you feel confident with and that display your strengths and interests.  We encourage you to consult with your music teacher or private lesson teacher when choosing and preparing your repertoire. We also invite you to contact Mr. Mark Snyder <snyderma@tcnj.edu >, Artist-Teacher of Oboe, for guidance in selecting repertoire and to inquire about scheduling a free sample lesson prior to your audition.

-Each audition includes demonstrations of scales, a study and a solo-


Scales

Perform the following scales with a steady tempo and consistent rhythm.

Chromatic scale (full range)
Two major scales in the keys of your choice


Solo

Perform a 5-minute selection from a standard sonata or concerto from one of the following composers of your choice. If possible, please offer contrasting sections.

George Friedrich Handel – Concerto in B-flat Major / Concerto in G Minor / Sonata in C Minor / Sonata in G Minor / Sonata in F Major

Joseph Haydn – Concerto in C Major (attributed to Haydn)

Alessandro Marcello – Concerto in C Minor / Concerto in D Minor

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Concerto in C Major

George Philip Telemann – Sonata in G Minor / Sonata in E-flat Major / Concerto in F Minor

 


Studies

Perform 3 minutes of an etude from one of the methods below:

A.M.R. Barret, Complete Method for Oboe

F. Ferling, 48 Exercises for Oboe
