Clarinet

Audition Information

The goal of the audition is to enable you to best demonstrate your musical achievement. Select pieces from the repertoire below that you feel confident with and that display your strengths and interests.  We encourage you to consult with your music teacher or private lesson teacher when choosing and preparing your repertoire. We also invite you to contact Mr. Joshua Kovach kovachj@tcnj.edu, Artist-Teacher of Clarinet, for guidance in selecting repertoire and to inquire about scheduling a free sample lesson prior to your audition.

Scales

Play 3 scales in the following keys.  All scales are to be played with a steady tempo and consistent rhythm.
E Major (3 octaves)
A-flat Major (2 octaves)
F Major (3 octaves)

Solo*

Perform one of the pieces below. If possible, please offer contrasting sections.

Mozart: Clarinet Concerto
Osborne: Rhapsodie
Rabaud: Solo de Concours
Saint-Saens: Sonata (Movements I, II, or IV)
Stravinsky: 3 Pieces for Solo Clarinet
Stamitz: Concerto #3
Weber: Concertino, Concerto #1, or Concerto #2

An acceptable alternative is Rabaud: Solo de Concours, the 2021/2022 All-State/Region audition solo.
