Audition Information
The goal of the music audition is to enable you to highlight your musical achievement and potential. You should select pieces from the repertoire list below that best demonstrate your current level of musicianship. We encourage you to consult with your music teacher and/or private lesson teacher when selecting and preparing your repertoire. Each audition will include scales, studies, solo repertoire, and sight-reading
Scales
Prepare the scales listed below. All scales are to be played with a steady tempo, consistent rhythm, and in the required octaves (or full-range extension above/below the given tonic). Requests for slurred/articulated are to be prepared.
- F Chromatic Scale, two-octaves, slurred
- F Major, two-octaves, tongued and non-staccato
- G Major, two-octaves, tongued and non-staccato
Studies*
Prepare an etude of your choosing that best demonstrates your ability. Representative etudes from:
- Bordogni-Rochut: Melodius Etudes, Book I
- Kopprasch: 60 Selected Studies, Book I or Book II
- Slama: 66 Etudes
Solo Repertoire*
Select one piece listed below. Please be certain to prepare contrasting sections (slow/lyrical and fast/technical)
- Curnow: Rhapsody for Euphonium
