Audition Information

The goal of the audition is to enable you to best demonstrate your musical achievement. Select pieces from the repertoire below that you feel confident with and that display your strengths and interests. We encourage you to consult with your music teacher or private lesson teacher when choosing and preparing your repertoire. We also invite you to contact the department of music <musicdept@tcnj.edu> for guidance in selecting repertoire and to inquire about scheduling a free sample lesson prior to your audition.

Scales

One 3 octave major scale or one of the following 2 octave major scales:  E flat, F, G, A, played with a steady tempo and consistent rhythm.


Studies

Choose one etude from:

Dont 24,  Studies (or Etudes and Caprices)

Kayser, Elementary and Progressive Studies

Kreutzer, 42 Studies

Fiorillo,  31 Selected Studies

Campagnoli, 41 Caprices


Solo

One movement of a Concerto by Hoffmeister, Stamitz, Vanhal, Bartok, Walton, Hindemith, or equivalent

OR one movement of a Sonata by Schubert, Brahms, Vieuxtemps, Hindemith, Glinka, or equivalent

OR one movement from an unaccompanied suite, sonata, or partita by J.S. Bach.
