Audition Information
The goal of the music audition is to enable you to highlight your musical achievement and potential. You should select pieces from the repertoire list below that best demonstrate your current level of musicianship. We encourage you to consult with your music teacher and/or private lesson teacher when selecting and preparing your repertoire. Each audition will include scales, studies, solo repertoire, and sight-reading
Scales and Arpeggios
Prepare the scales and arpeggios listed below. All scales are to be played with a steady tempo, consistent rhythm, and in the required octaves. Note: at least one scale must be performed in 3 octaves.
- G Major
- D Major
- F Major
- a minor
- e minor
- d minor
Studies*
Prepare an etude of your choosing that best demonstrates your ability. Representative etudes from:
- F. Dotzauer, 113 Etudes
- J.L. Duport, 21 Etudes
- A. Franchomme, 12 Etudes
- A. Piatti, 12 Caprices
- D. Popper, 40 Etudes
- A. Servais, 6 Caprices
Solo Repertoire*
Select one piece/movement listed below. Please be certain to prepare contrasting sections (slow/lyrical and fast/technical)
- A movement from any sonata by A. Corelli, B. Marcello, G. Sammartini, A. Vivaldi or comparable
- A movement from any concerto by A. Vivaldi, J.C. Bach, L. Boccherini, J. Haydn, E. Lalo, C. Saint-Saens or comparable
- Arioso by J.S. Bach or comparable.
