Audition Information
The goal of the music audition is to enable you to best demonstrate your musical achievement. You should select pieces from the repertoire below that you feel confident with and that demonstrate your strengths and interests. We encourage you to consult with your music teacher or private lesson teacher when choosing and preparing your repertoire. Each audition will include scales, a study, solo, and sight-reading
Scales
Perform four scales in the following keys, played with a steady tempo and consistent rhythm. All scales should be played in the required octaves or full-range extension above/below the given tonic. Requests for slurred/articulated are to be prepared.
- E-major, two octaves
- A-flat, major, two octaves
- B-flat major, three octaves
- B-flat chromatic, three octaves
Studies*
Prepare an etude of your choosing that best demonstrates your ability. Representative etudes from:
- C.J. Weissenborn, Fifty Advanced Studies
- L. Milde, 50 Concert Studies Volume I
Solo*
Select one piece listed below. If possible, please offer contrasting sections.
- Bourdeau, Premier Solo (entire piece)
- Mozart Concerto in B-flat Major -All Movements
- Telemann, Sonata in f-minor -All Movements
- Pierne, Concert Piece for Bassoon-Entire Solo
