Tuba

Audition Information

The goal of the audition is to enable you to best demonstrate your musical achievement. Select pieces from the repertoire below that you feel confident with and that display your strengths and interests.  We encourage you to consult with your music teacher or private lesson teacher when choosing and preparing your repertoire. We also invite you to contact Mr. Brian Brown bbrown@tcnj.edu, Artist-Teacher of Tuba, for guidance in selecting repertoire and to inquire about scheduling a free sample lesson prior to your audition.

Scales

All major scales, one octave.  The following scales to be played two octaves:  F, G, A-flat, B-flat Major B-flat and F Chromatic scales, two octaves, slurred.  All scales played with a steady tempo and consistent rhythm.

Studies*

Two contrasting etudes from any of the following:

Blazhevich: 70 Studies for Bb Tuba

Bordogni: Complete Vocalizes for tuba, Edited by Wesley Jacobs.

Grigoriev: 78 Studies for Tuba

Kopprasch: 60 Selected Studies

Tyrell: Advance Studies for Bb Tuba

Solo

Saloti: A Stylized Suite, the 2021 All-State/Region audition solo
Alternatively: a tuba solo of the candidate’s choice.

Candidates may be asked to play a piece at sight.
