  • Wednesday, November 8, 2023: All Instruments: Early Decision, Spring Transfer
  • Wednesday, January 31, 2024: Voice, Piano, and Strings only
  • Saturday, February 17, 2024: All Instruments
  • Saturday, March 2, 2024: All Instruments
  • Wednesday, March 6, 2024: All Instruments (except Strings and Saxophone)

Wednesday in-person audition schedule

Registration: 11:30 a.m.

Saturday in-person audition schedule

Registration: 9:30 a.m.
Information session: 10:00 a.m.
Auditions: 10:30 a.m.

Campus Map

In-person auditions will take place in the Music Building | Mayo Concert Hall. On the day of your audition, you will meet with different groups of faculty. We are interested in learning about your prior musical experiences as well as your academic and professional ambitions. Your in-person audition will consist of 2 components: a performance on your primary instrument and a program interview. 

Note: A basic music theory assessment will be scheduled at a later date. Students with advanced music theory knowledge will be given opportunities for advanced placement at a later point in the matriculation process as well.

To help you prepare for your in-person audition, please review the requirements below. You should expect to spend 2-3 hours at your audition.


Virtual Audition Details

Although an in-person audition is recommended, we do offer a virtual audition for those who are unable to attend in-person.

Your virtual audition will consist of 2 components:

  1. A performance on your primary instrument
    1. Video submissions are due to music201@tcnj.edu no later than Sunday, March 10, 2024. Virtual audition requirements may be found here.
  2. A program interview via Zoom, scheduled for March 20, 2024. A link to sign up for an interview time slot will be emailed to you.

Note: A basic music theory assessment will be scheduled at a later date. Students with advanced music theory knowledge will be given opportunities for advanced placement at a later point in the matriculation process as well.

Interviews

Bachelor of Arts in Music 

Applicants for the B.A. in Music program will have a short (ca. 15 minute) interview with the faculty coordinator of the program. The goal of the interview is to determine if the B.A. program, which includes opportunities for self-directed, interdisciplinary study (including double majors) is well-suited to the prospective student’s academic, musical, and professional goals.

Bachelor of Music in Music Education 

The music education interview is a brief (10-15 minute) conversation focusing on the candidate’s interests in music teaching & learning, prior musical and academic experiences that have led to this career path, and career objectives in music education.

Bachelor of Music in Performance

The music performance interview is a brief (10-15 minute) conversation focusing on the candidate’s interests in music performance, prior musical and academic experiences that have led to this career path, and career objectives in music performance.
